The New Fuel Economy has several new aspects
- Your use of fuel must be much Greener now – nowadays by government discipline and it's being enforced internationally as well. In other words if you dont want to switch your entire fleet to electric, which is very expensive, you can continue to use fuel as usual but DRASTICALLY LOWER EMISSIONS in all vehicles. I believe the authorities will start to crank down on off-road vehicles, boats and generators soon. They should, because every engine that hasn't been optimized yet contributes to the overall pollution.
- When it comes to fuel economy, straight off when you pour too many dollars into the fuel pump today, everyone feels they must save every possible penny, and they are right. In a tight economy having a 20% advantage or even 10% over your competition may mean survive or fail. This is true for a company fleet as well as your family “fleet.”
- Maintenance is another factor – anything that saves fuel AND saves on maintenance is more than welcome. Fleet manager have always known this and look at everything from its dollar value viewpoint. Nowadays the family “manager” must look at all expenses just as if it was a business. Engines breaking down means less money to spend on education, future investments and simple family fun time.
- Another factor that my broad view from years of overlooking the subject Fuel Economy, is that NEW WINDS are blowing ever so hard. Businesses and families are much more open to trying out new gizmos and methods to save and improve the quality of life. Technologies that in the past were regarded as weird or fringe, are now being more mainstream – simply because users are willing to try out new ideas, because they have come to realize that automakers and machine makers haven't perfected their products.
- Politicians ride the wave. They pitch The New Fuel Economy and everything Green, which is not bad for you because they have helped to pass many laws that make governments pay incentives for greener use of energy at large. More is needed, but the wind is blowing in the right direction, and will continue so as long as we have pollution and high energy needs.
- China is another factor that not too many talk about. China is big and has always faced big problems. Nowadays it's energy – china is the most industrious nation and its energy needs are greater than we may realize. The Chinese are desperately looking for cheaper energy sources, and the phrase “they are open” doesn't even start to describe their thirst for clean, dependable and above all affordable energy, which is why their quest is the “greenest” despite the photos and reports about pollution in China.
